OVERVIEW
Background
A joint venture between Vitol, Shell, and Helios, Vivo Energy was established to take over Shell’s downstream business in Africa. With operations across the continent and a bold ambition to grow, the new business needed an identity that could potentially unite diverse markets, thousands of employees, and millions of customers every day.
The Challenge
Our client needed a name and identity to stand on its own — one that could energise internal teams, earn trust externally, and speak across cultures, languages, and geographies. This was a major shift — not just a new brand, but a total repositioning of purpose, presence, and potential.
The Work
We began by naming the business Vivo Energy. Vivo — a word that speaks to life, vitality, and forward momentum. This sense of energy became the foundation for the entire brand system: a dynamic logo representing a world of energy, a bold and vibrant colour palette reflecting the richness and diversity of Africa, and visual assets designed to be scalable, striking, and seamlessly applied — from oil tankers to uniforms.
From launch materials and investor communications to signage, digital platforms, and comprehensive application guidelines, we created a cohesive system to carry the brand confidently into its next era.
The Impact
Since launch, Vivo Energy has become a major player in African energy — now operating in 28 markets, with almost 4,000 service stations and around 2 million daily customers. The brand has grown in scale, presence, and recognition — a symbol of progress for employees, partners, and customers alike. More than a name, Vivo Energy is a signal — of vitality, vision, and a continent alive with motion.
